- pneumonia and kidney complications; in Tallahassee, Florida. For
- more than three decades Barber served up a steady stream of
- play-by-play palaver for the Cincinnati Reds, the Brooklyn
- Dodgers and the New York Yankees. His down-home eloquence
- painted pictures for his listeners in the days before
- television, and in recent years found him new fans with his
- Friday-morning commentary and reminiscences on National Public
- Radio.
